• KnowledgeWeb, Network of Excellence, EU FP6. Realizing the Semantic Web
• Wissensnetze, Project A of the Berlin Research Centre for the Internet Economy InterVal. Studies the impact of semantic technologies from the business and the technical viewpoint to make predictions about the influence of the new technologies on markets, enterprises and individuals.
• Reisewissen, in cooperation with eHotel AG. A Semantic Web to support booking and travel.
• Semantic Web in der Pathologie, in cooperation with the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and the Universität Potsdam. An information retrieval system for images and text documents for pathology, based on Semantic Web technologies.
• Member of OntoWeb, a European Union founded project about Ontology-based information exchange for knowledge management and electronic commerce.
• Member of Agentlink III, Network of Excellence in Agent research, EU.

Web Technologies

• XML Sicherheitsdienste für GBIF-D, funded by BMBF, in cooperation with the Botanischer Garten und Botanisches Museum Berlin. Providing XML security services and access controls for the German node of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility.
• SYNTHESYS, funded by the EU, in cooperation with the Botanischer Garten und Botanisches Museum Berlin. Develop authentication services for system access in DiGIR/ABCD, so that restricted data access can be granted to appropriate end-users.
• EDIT – the European Distributed Institute of Taxonomy, funded by the EU, in cooperation with the Botanischer Garten und Botanisches Museum Berlin. Develop a communication platform for taxonomists.
• NBI is associated partner in the “Netzwerk für integrierte Systeme in der Telemedizin” (NEST)
• XML Clearinghouse Berlin-Brandenburg, funded by BMBF in cooperation with Humboldt Universität zu Berlin. Knowledge transfer on XML technology focused on the region Berlin-Brandenburg. Part of PinK, (Plattform für intelligente Kollaborationsportale)
• XML Lab, funded by Microsoft Research Cambridge (currently being extended from TU Berlin to FU Berlin). An infrastructure for teaching XML technologies.
• XMLSpaces.net, funded by Microsoft Research Cambridge. An implementation of XMLSpaces on the .net platform.
